(The above is a policy office which provides general information and guidance only. Specific marketing efforts should be focused at the most appropriate buying offices listed in Chapter 4.)

AFMC is an integrated team delivering and sustaining the best products for the world's best Air Force (AF). Their mission responsibilities include system acquisition, sustainment, science and technology, test and evaluation, and base operating support. AFMC also provides support to other US military forces and allies and handles major aerospace responsibilities for the Department of Defense (DoD). These include research, development, and evaluation of satellite boosters, space probes, and associated systems needed to support specific NASA projects. The headquarters for AFMC, the AF's largest command, is located at Wright-Patterson AF Base, Ohio. The majority of the AFMC work force of some 88,000 military and civilian employees, including most of the AF scientists and engineers, are engaged in the operation of major product centers, logistics centers, test centers, and laboratory/research activities. The Command's budget represents over half of the total AF budget and its contract awards are well over 50 percent of the total AF dollars placed with US firms. Each of the AFMC product centers, logistics centers, test centers, and laboratory has a Small Business Office, whose purpose is to assure maximum practical opportunities for small business participation in AFMC contracts. The Small Business Offices provide guidance on the DoD market for products and services, advice concerning DoD and AF acquisition policies and procedures, information on doing business with them and on contracting opportunities.

This chapter, focusing on the AFMC logistics centers, will tell you the type of requirements purchased and provide you with a point of contact at each. Study it carefully and contact those activities which purchase requirements that are in your areas of interest. They will provide you the specifics on their individual acquisition programs and how to do business with them. There are three air logistics centers (ALCs) within AFMC. These centers are responsible for worldwide logistics support to include repair, modification, and the acquisition of spare parts required to sustain the readiness of AF weapon systems The following provides the specifics on the weapon systems, equipment, and commodities managed by each of the ALCs.
